Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a common bacterium that can cause a variety of infections in humans and animals. This image-processing project aims to study the effect of temperature on the growth characteristics of motile and non-motile E. coli MG1655 colonies on hard agar. The project used a custom-built imaging setup to monitor bacterial growth in petri plates from the top in a controlled environment. Images of the Petri plates were taken at regular intervals over time, and image processing techniques were used to quantify the bacterial growth.
