Optical fibers are flexible transparent fibers associated with data transmission using light. They are generally made of glass or plastic. It facilitates the propagation of light along with the optical fiber depending on the requirement of power and distance of transmission. In the chemical industry, monitoring the conditions of chemicals and controlling them is vital. To do so, using normal conductors prove to be very risky and may cause fatal accidents. To avoid this, we have developed a data acquisition system using optical fibers. In this system, we use different sensors like Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) ( light sensor), Float ( level sensor ), and Thermis ( temperature sensor ), which are connected to Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) and microcontrollers. An optical from the microcontroller passes through the chemical containers and joins another microcontroller. This microcontroller is further connected to a Display and PC which displays the status of the chemical. A technician can then monitor the chemicals and enter the details into a data log. In case of any damage or breakage in the wire, only part of the light will leak, avoiding any accidents.
