Microfluidics is an inter-disciplinary science dealing with the miniaturization of experiments with a little expense of energy, time, and solvent usage. Besides, these results are highly reproducible with much accuracy. Biodiesel is one of the prominent renewable biofuels, which has the potential to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. In the biodiesel production process, algae cultivation, biomass harvesting, drying, lipid extraction, transesterifcation, and purification are significant enumerated steps. Microfluidics has shown prominent results not only in harvesting the biomass but also efficient in lipid extraction. Owing to the advantage of miniature operation using microfluidics devices is a viable approach for lipid extraction and biodiesel production. In this chapter, the basics of microfluidics and their applications in harvesting and extraction of lipid have elucidated.
