Shafina Charania is a fourth year student from the Electronics department of K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering. Her interests include Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Robotics
She is currently working as a research intern under the guidance of Dr Ninad Mehendale for the past one year.
She has been working on a paper named Malaria Cell Detection for diagnosing the incubation period and stage of infection . Another project that she has been working on is Machine Vision using a 360-degree camera and its application in object detection for the blind, where they collected the dataset from a 360-degree camera and trained it using YOLOv5 in Pytorch and further applied Text-to-Speech for further object detection.
She recently represented Team Onyx India at the SAE Aero-modelling competition 2022 in Texas, USA as a member of the Electronics and Propulsion department and secured 6th place globally. She worked on developing an algorithm to detect the colour of an unknown coloured marker by using OpenCv and Image Processing to get the Arduino-based glider to land on the target.
Her other projects include Autonomous weed detection and removal robot ,Unmanned Aerial Vehicle for Human Detection ,Machine learning project titled Marketing Campaign For Banking Products,Obstacle avoiding robot using Arduino and Emotion detection using deep learning
She has also represented her tech team in Intra college competitions such as Abhiyantriki 2019/20/21.
Her technical skill set includes fluency in using programming languages like Arduino C, Python, and Matlab. She has considerable experience in using Engineering software such as OpenCv,Raspberry Pi,Arduino ,STM32, Proteus,EasyEda, Eagle, Tinkercad, Quarteus and LTSpice. She has completed internships in Robotics and Machine Learning.
